Jaagriti has taken another step towards providing basic education to underprivileged children. A new project has been started in Sector 17, Dwarka.
To start with, a room was provided by the residents of the community for conducting classes. The project was started with 28 students initially living in the colony itself. The community has permanent houses, unlike the ones in Sector-10, 13 and almost all the people living in the community are daily wagers, mostly rickshaw pullers.
Over the last two weeks, the number of students has risen to 45 with new entries everyday, which has been the main source of motivation for volunteers. This was achieved by visiting houses personally and convincing parents to send their children every day. Many parents were very enthusiastic about this idea of free education.
With the rising no. of students, the class was divided into 3 different groups, namely A, B and C.
Group A - Children who can read and write and go to school
Group B - Children who can identify alphabets and write them. Some children go to school in this group.
Group C - Children who have never been to any school, and are absolute beginners.
Furthermore, we have decided to hold classes for Group A and B together. Group C classes will be held separately due to a large no. of students in it. Last week, stationary and notebooks were distributed to everyone, and writing books were provided to Group C children. Books for group B will be acquired soon.
A very important task before the volunteers and the teacher is to begin the admission process by admitting children to the nearby Govt. School in Sector-3. Apart from academics, drawing classes have been started for 16 children on Sundays.
Activities Planned for the month of August:
A no. of other activities have been planned for the month of August, like clay modeling, Sketching, Dance and Moral Education. Also, Independence day will be celebrated in the community itself.
Looking forward to suggestions from everyone. :-)
Regards,
From the entire Jaagriti Sector-17 team
